Freshwater fishing Cape Cod this winter

Due to the unusally warm temps this winter on Cape Cod I've heard that Trout and Salmon fishing has been quite good. Would appreciate any advice and knowledge.

I have two brothers living on the Cape for the first time and they have had some luck with rainbows. They received information from fellow fishers that a large salmon had been caught recently. The weather was beautiful the scenery was great and it was January. Sounded like it was "quite good". Any day that I can fish in January in New England without freezing my you know what off is quite good. I have zero experience in fishing Cape Cod in the winter so I was looking for advice for next year as I hope to be residing there.
