Hey gang!
Just thought I'd put the "heads-up" out there for fly tyers interested in very long "EP" type fibres for really-really-really big flies I picked up at my local Walmart (in Canada) today.
The product is called "Mandala Wool" and comes in 2 yard long hanks with a fluffy circumference of about 4 inches (about the same as a large frankfurter) of nicely aligned fibres. The texture is comparable to Polar Fibre if not even slightly finer (but not quite as fine as "glo-bug yarn). It "pulls" nicely giving pleasingly tapered ends.
The price in "Canadian dollars" was $2.69...a real bargain considering I can get 100's of flies out of it.
I was dissapointed to find that the colour selection at Walmart was limited. They had it in black, dark brown and a light creamy tan (almost beige). I'd have struck gold if they had it in white!!! I'm currently trying to source their supplier to see if it's offered in other colours as well as in "bulk".
Right now, I'm trying it out on some bonefish patterns and I'll see how they do in Cuba next week.
Good tying and tight loops!!!
Regards,
