I'm sorry I can't remember what the site was, but I was looking at a site recently and they were catching big bonefish on a fly in Hawaii. If I can remember the site, I'll try to post again.

Do a Google search for "nervous waters" and it will lead you to a good flyfishing outfitter on Oahu.

Thanks Vic T, that's the site I was trying to think of. Looks like a lot of fun!

On the island of Oahu (Waikiki) check out Nervous Water Fly Fishers for bonefish. Hawaii Bass Fishing for peacock bass. Kauai also has freshwater guides.

I had the same problem when I went to Oahu. I contacted this guy who runs bonefish808-he is a good guy but was about to have new surgery so he just showed me a flat to fish. Warning: This is not the bahamas:

This site I found when I was looking around and seems interesting-it is on Kona:

Hawaii is a quality bonefish area, NOT a quantity bonefish area. LOL You may get a shot at 6 or 7 fish in a day if your lucky, but if you get one...... a 6 pounder is considered small.
Did you think about the freshwater fishing for peacock bass? Oahu and Kauai.

I've never seen a flyrodders in many trips to the islanders. The locals fish with conventional tackle and bait mostly, tho they do spincast...they call it "whipping." Don't just focus on bonefishing. Small Trevally under 10 lbs are called "Papio" and are a lot of fun on light tackle or fly tackle.
I'd recommend the book "Fishing Hawaii Style - Volume I" by Jim Rizzuto. Not fly fishing, but you'll learn what you need to know about the fishery and you can apply it.
