I see big tarpon (80-100 lbs.) rolling in a freshwater pond and i have not been able to catch any big ones. I caught some small ones on a popper but can't seem to get any big ones to bite. Does any one know how to catch them or have any suggestions on what I should try?

You may want to try big slow moving swimmer in red and white or a mullet head soaked on the bottom.

thanks and do you think that shrimp or pinfish on the bottom would also work.

Big fish daisy chaining on the surface are harf to get to eat. The shrimp will probably be too small to attract notice and a live pinfish maybe too much work. A half mullet is a lrge smelly bait that is easily found and worth the effort for a larger meal.

When I was in Vero area about 6 years ago there were several very large Tarpon in the ponds. I only got them to eat live ladyfish once they took the fly. I think they get smart in those ponds... Large shrimp will also work as well..

what?

I have only had good luck with tarpon at night.

The great thing about that fish is that sometimes you can do everything right and they still wont eat. Or catch then one day and repeat the presentation the next day on the same tide etc. for similar fish
and not even get a follow. The perfect gamefish ?
