Hey guys, I'm going to be in Sebastian for 2 weeks in feb. I'm looking for info on shore fishing, wade fishing in the area. I need to know what to bring for tackle rods, reels , lures, etc. Also what species i can expect to find while i'm there. Also would like to know of any good tackle shops in the area plus any guides for inshore and offshore fishing. Thanks for any and all info.

If it's anything like it was when I was there two years ago, get ready for combat fishing...Salmon River or Canal Herring Run style. The only way out of that is if you abandon the thought of fishing the jetty and walk the beach...bunch of idiots

After further thought, due to the fact that it was during April school vacations when I last went, I'll back off my last stance a bit and assume that my timing was a bit off (although I'd personally still be wary of ever going back there). But the main draw there seems to be the larger jacks that show up there as well as snook. Despite the ridiculous crowds there the last time I went, there were some fishermen enjoying success as I saw a couple of jacks caught as well as a pretty decent number of snook. And this was right in the middle of the afternoon. Their bait of choice was predominately a small silverly/round-ish bait fish called a majorra (sp). They were only a couple of inches long.
Btw, I know your question was moreso pertaining to the general area....my answer is specifically talking about Sebastian Inlet where, if I remember correctly, only the south jetty is accessable to fishermen.

my wife and i went down to sebastian last april for 3 weeks,we towed our own boat down because we rented a house right on the river looking across the river to the inlet.to answer a few questions you had there is a good tackle shop just about a mile or so north of the inlet on the right side, they had all kinds of live and dead bait plus terminal tackle and stuff.if you are staying on the sebastian side of the river right on indian river drive @ the main st. boat ramp is another good shop.as far as fishing i agree with albicized the inlet is nuts but the river is great with trout, reds ladyfish and all kinds of light tackle fishing if you have access to a boat or yak go up inside the sebastian river for snook and small tarpon. hope thus wasn't to much but you will find it is a real cool place.

Thanks guys, all the info is very much appreciated. I'm going to be there for 2 weeks, 1 of the weeks is feb vacation so that will probably be crazy, but my buddy just towed his boat down to boca so hopefully we can stay away from the crowds. The second week I'm going to try the shore thing all the way down the coast. So if anybody has any info on any other places, spots along the east coast of florida it would be very much appreciated. Thanks again.

Isolated areas along Old Jungle trail Road towards vero beach- i found multiple places along this road with a ton of speckled, some snook and a few redfish.

Mojarra- you can get them from shrimp boats. They trawl them up while shrimping and sell them as Tarpon bait. Usually they sell a 50 pound sack for about $20-$30. If you buy one make sure it is fish only and not a mix of crabs, puffers, skates, squid, small shrimp etc...
