I'm in the market for a new vice to replace the homemade unit I have been using for many years and I would like to here some suggestions, likes/dislkes, etc. I am presently somewhat interested in a Griffen Montana Mongoose, does anybody have any history with one of these?

How much are you looking to spend?

I don't know anything about the Mongoose. As with rods, reels, boats, autos, computers, women and so on there are several camps of folks with similar opinions. I'm in the Renzetti camp. There is also the Regal camp, the Dyna-King and the HMH camp and I probably missed a camp or two. If you dabble with epoxy then you want true rotary. If you tie Saltwater and trout then you need a vise that can easily handle 5/0 to 28 with the standard jaws or by switching jaws. Since you have been tying for a while you have the advantage of knowing exactly what types of flys you want to produce. If you haven't already done so you might GOOGLE Hans Weilenmann fly tying vise review . One of the first hits you get will be a link to what is considered the best comparative review of tying vises on the net. The Mongoose is included.

I've used a number of different vises and I think the one I use now (and have for several years) is the best - it's a Regal. The simplicity of use is the thing I like best about it. I think it cost around $200, which, with materials, etc., and a lot of tying brings me down to a cost-per-fly of about $10 - such a deal! :)

The HMH Spartan is a great value, simple USA-made vise.

The renzetti traveler was my choice after a lot of reading, looking at every tyer's vise at the shows, and my budget limits. Had $$$ not been an issue, I would have went with the DK Barracuda...just too much $$$ for me, but in my opinion the sickest vise out there.
Since I was going to be doing SW epoxy, that ruled out the Regal (if you are FW only, no rotary needs, thats the way to go).
The 160ish price of the traveller met my needs. I got the base which I love, and the travel pouch which is useless.
The regular traveller allowed me to tie on SW hooks up to 4-5/0, so the more costly SW traveller is not needed to tie SW flies.
Overall I have been very happy with it, nothing has broken, and I've had it for 4-5 years now.
Just my 2 cents.

Do a search. There is a lot of info on this subject that is already available and is of great value...
One can never have too many vices ... err, vises. By the way, since you used both spellings, what you want is a vise. That said, you should follow msiler's advice and search on vises on this board. They have been a major discussion topic.
Hmm, now that I think about it, maybe we do want vices?
