View Full Version : As exciting as watching water freeze

I was fishing an area reservoir today and as the temperature dropped during the afternoon I could see the ice crystals forming on the surface of the water. For awhile, the water would freeze on my braid right when it hit the water then my ¼ oz Kastmaster would drag the line under but the crystals would remain on the surface. I could see where I made each cast and as long as I retrieved my line with the tip of the rod under water the line and rod guides would be fairly ice free. When the temp dropped a little more the ice would form on the braid so quickly that the Kastmaster could not even sink the line. Even when I retrieved the line underwater ice would form in the second and third guides so I gave it up. It was also interesting because it is always windy at the reservoir but today the water was glass flat and there was not a whisper of wind.

Oh, by the way, the fishing was dismal. I got the stinker but seeing the ice form like that was pretty cool because I am a science dork of sorts.
