Shaun and I decided to get in a little fishing pre and post Marlborough so we grabbed the olive Buggers and headed west. Great day on the water even though it was slow fishing. Highlight was native Brown that managed to impale itself on one of Shaun's offerings.

Shaun once again proves the adage that anyone can catch a big fish, but it takes a real fisherman to feel the little bites!

Time to change your name to 2oz charters. At least you got something. I went to a local pond with the kids and couldn't even get a crappie.

Sam,

Those two photos sure bring back some pleasant memories! ;)

That little brownie looks like my very first trout, caught in upstate NY.

When my father (a non-fisherman) saw it, he yelled out "Wait...I think it will fit on a cracker." ;)

You guys are hardcore. I live a few hundred yards from the Stillwater and even I don't bother flogging the water in January!

If you cross the river right where the pic is taken you can cast to a nice undercut bank where that little baby trout's daddy might be lurking.

Eddy,
Any chance we could wake you up a bit early from hibernation to show us around? Water wasn't that cold.... unless you fell in it.... ask Shaun.

Yeah, um, I'll pass on the polar bear swim. Be glad to show you around the next time you're in town, though. No magic, the river is always close to a road, but there are a couple of spots that get less pressure than the rest of the river.

A couple of minutes on the road and you're on the Quinnie, usually a better bet than the Stillwater.

January has been more like May.

We did hit that, briefly before the Stillwater to check it out. Water was high and the current was raging compared to the Still. Was a bit tougher to fish that day. We didn't go too far up river on the Quinnie though, just to the highway. And didn't go down river towards the res to the slower parts. Bailed on it (after the illeged dunking, just a sleeve touchdown after I slid off a round rock into a hole) to check out the Stillwater.
