Has Kenny Abrams ceased and desisted selling those great/long/ beautiful saddles in all of those great colors? I visited Striper Moon and there is no link
for those R.L.S Hackles.
I usually buy 4 or 5 different colors in a given year. I have some extra cash this year and was thinking of making a big order.
If he's stopped it's that's too bad. He made some nice stuff.
Anyone know of any alternative sources of the same type of saddles?
Thanx in advance!

Kenney unfortunately, has stopped selling his saddles. His supplier began to breed his birds to grow feathers more suited for dry flies. Kenney saw it as unfair to sell these inferior saddles and has discontinued selling them. You will not see the color range Kenney had, but a few places to investigate are the Bear's Den in Taunton, Mass., Down-n-Trout Oufitters Point Pleasant, NJ, and Keough has nice saddles for $15 a pop. Good luck!
castingmaniac- I found a site that might meet your needs flytyervariant
I have never ordered from these people so I can't vouch for the quality, but I did get a flatwing/utility saddle on ebay and its quality is great. Ron

Well, I can't in any way say that Kenny lacked integrity! Still, I'll miss having that easy access to buy those saddles. Oh well.
Thanks for the new link, I'll give it a look-see.

Try to get a hold of Boarmountain through RT. Never heard anything but compliment about his saddles.

I got a group of guys together last year to purchase some of the Boarmountain hackles. I was dissapointed with what we got. I don't think the other guys were that thrilled with them as well.
As an example, 2 out of 3 of the saddles I got weren't very good for different reasons.. One "olive" saddle I got had decent feathers but the color was more of a drab grey. The worst one was a white saddle with most of the webbier feathers having a 180* twist about half-way down the length of each feather. The black one I got was usable.
Maybe we bought them after a show and this was the bottom of the barrel, or maybe this is what I get for ordering them sight-unseen, but I'd recommend that you hand pick the ones you buy.

Not only is he a phenomenal artist with the flies that he ties, but the materials that he makes are superb
Well worth making the association with him– well worth the purchase

If you buy a saddle that has twisted feathers, run it under hot water in the bathtub and dry it out on a cutting board. Works like a charm! If the dye runs a little, fine beats not being abe to use it. If the dye runs a lot, you know who not to buy from.
