Hey guys,

Just a quick question, since you will definitely know more than I do:

I have some in-laws coming down in early march, and the guy wants to go deep sea fishing out of Galveston.

Do you know of anyone in particular that would be reasonbly priced but actually good on the water? He has never been out before so it's really about hooking something big to remember (and maybe eat, too), but I just don't know where to start looking for guides.

Thanks guys,

Bear

If you are going offshore you might consider going out of Freeport - there are probably more charter operations there and the water gets deeper faster out of that port. Unfortunately the federal waters snapper season will still be closed until April 15th or so, but some folks have good luck in state waters where they are still legal (inside 9 nm). You could go deep for amberjack, beeliners and maybe grouper, and some folks go far offshore during winter for tuna. The weather is hit or miss that time of year too. Check this board out for more info on texas fishing and offhore advice/reports.

good luck.

Thanks for the advice!

It looks pretty unlikely that it will happen this time around since most offshore guides have a 1 day price tag of $800 in the galveston area it's just too much for the two of us to split.

That's ok. They are gonig tobe up on Lake Conroe, so I might be able to get him on the water there instead. Not as interesting or unique, I know, but better than no fishing at all!
