I just read the LI fisherman and it sound like it is starting to break loose with weakfish, fluke and bass. Does anyone out there have any reports or can you confirm the reports? Thanks

Hey Ghost,
Fished the Peconics this past weekend and things
were still a little slow. With the coming full moon next
week I think you'll see a big change. I would think that
Mr.Weakfish would be a visitor to your bridge at that time. Things are starting to heat up in the Sunken Meadow area. Sand eels are in the river and the fishing
has been sporadic but probably will bust loose any day. Good luck .. Salty

A comment and and a question on the above posts: 1. Is it me or do The Fisherman reports tend to be a tad less reliable than other reports out there? (i.e. does it sometimes seem like they simply regurgitate prior years' reports?);
2. More importantly, can someone provide some basic information regarding fly fishing for weakfish from the sand on the East End. Can someone point me towards some beaches, methods, timing where I can try during a Friday drive from NYC to East Hampton. My usual fly fishing during spring/early summer is small bass at dusk/early evening in the Accabonac/Three Mile Harbor area. However, I suspect that in the past year or two there has been some great weakfishing a bit to the west. I know Shelter Island creeks are the historic spots, but unfortunately it is not always practical. Thanks.

They rely on tackle shops, boat rentals, and party boats for their information and those people don't make money by reporting no fish. I tend to look more for trends when reading the fisherman then specific information.

Thanks for the information. My boat is near the bridge so i fish that area when time is limiting my travel otherwise I fish around Robins and the canal to Shinnecock bay.

By "the bridge" do you mean what I see referred to as the Rte. 105 bridge. I believe I've seen this referenced in the past as a weakfish spot. Is there shore fishing in this area? Any beaches or areas to park that you may be able to point out to me? Thanks so much.

The 105 bridge is correct. You can fish from indian island suffolk park along the north side of the river. A better spot is along marshes on the south side (Flanders side) I am not sure how you get there but several people fish this area so it is posible.
So far this year there haa been no weakfish action but last year it was hot at this time, hopefully they are just late.
