I was just in mexico and the black death tarpon fly seemed to work on almost every fish. I caught ladyfish, missed tarpon, snapper bumped a nice snook and stole the fly, chased by cuda, and lookdown jacks. has anyone ever tried this fly for stripers? I am definetley going to try it this spring. It seems like a very universal pattern.

I tried a smaller version with a rabbit collar. It was deadly on shad and schoolies. I'm going to try tying them with marabou collars and squirrel.

I don' tsee why the black death tarpon fly wouldn't work for stripers M largest fly caught striper fell for the cockroach fly in all black. If they can see it they'll eat it at one time or another.

I agree. That fly has excellent action. It breathes and pulsates with each strip. I missed a huge Tarpon on a Black Death pattern because I wasn't tight to the fly. It inhaled it and spit it before I could even say what the F*#@! Then my guide uttered those words in my direction repeatedly for the rest of the trip.

Looks very much like a (Lou Taboury) Snake Fly. The Black snake is one of my favorites at night and in overcast.
I would have to agree the black snake fly is a killer. I use very thing saddles instead of the ostrich herl. But the fly has taken some big bass for me. FIve years ago I caught a fishi around twenty pounds on one which is my biggest fly rod striper to date. The eel punt is also a good all around search pattern that is all black.
