The Cape Cod Salties will provide fly tying seminars Saturday afaternoons from 2-4. Our new location is Fishing the Cape, located at Harwich Commons. The seminars are designed for novice tiers and offer a chance to learn tying techniques to create flies that work to take fish. Anyone is welcome to tie a few flies, share techniques and stories and keep Winter at bay. Please bring your vice and tools if you have them; if not, they will be provided. Materials will be supplied.

Ben Emery will kick off the February 4th. session with his Sparkle Bunker pattern. On February 11, Bill Cottle will share some simple bucktail and maribou patterns which are proven fish-getters. On February 18, Al Brewster will tie whatever he wishes. Al, a world famous commercial tier has tied for royalty. His flies appear in numerous books. He's also a genuine nice guy anf fabulous story teller. Kent Meserve, who catches lots of Stripers on Brewster Flats, will tie some flies on jig heads on February 25th.

:) Hi Onshore- Thanks for the information. I was hoping you could answer a couple of questions if u have time. I am new to this skinny water fishing for stripers and was wondering what pattern you would recommend and why. Also I would like to begin some new threads and have noticed that this is not always allowed. Is this directed at me because I am a newbie here or what? I thought articulating your thoughts and asking original questions was the point of this forum. But what do I know! Thanks challis :)

Challis,

If you have "joined" Reel-Time you should be able to post new threads here. If you can't log in; send an email to the administrators and I'm sure they will straighten out the problem. Joining is easy and its' free.

As to flies for saltwater in New England, I suppose the two basic patterns would be the Clouser Minnow and the Deceiver in size from 2" to 6" or more and various colors depending upon what you are fishing for. As to why those two flies work so well, it is because they imitate just about any and every baitfish you will find in our waters.

Hope you can make it to the Salties seminar this afternoon. If you do, be sure and say hellow.

Bill - Thanks for the info and the invite. However, ;) there is a striper fest in Newport and unfortunately I can't attend both. Thanks Challis
