View Full Version : streamflow data, Swift River?
Is there any online source to check streamflow data on the Swift in Belchertown? There is (was) a gaging station located about half way between Rt 9 and Cady Lane.

It's still coming over it's bank. If you google "swift river, ma water levels" you should be able to find the USGS listing. Compare this winter to the median for the last 50 years. It's unreal.

I've never really had a lot of luck with the USGS or any other online stream flow reports. They'll give you a general idea if the water is low, normal, or high, but that's about it.

Here you go Bob:
For the all of the river gauges available in MA click HERE (http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ma/nwis/rt)
For the Swift click HERE (http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ma/nwis/uv?01175500)
FWIW, I find the Swift is fishable up to about 500 cfs. Beyond that it gets hard to wade to the good spots - but it is do-able. At about 800 cfs it starts to get really sketchy and over 1000 cfs it is unfishable and too deep to step off the bank.

I usually check this site for river forecasts in the CT river area, especially in the spring (shad), although it doesn't include the Swift:

is the best. There is one for the Swift river in Ware which is below the Quabbin. Thats ther best info I found.
