Fished of the North RIver on Sunday (5/7) with no luck.I was on my kayak, so I moved all over the place to find fish without any results. The 4-5 other guys I saw fishing looked liked they were getting skunked as well
I did spot a seal hanging around inside the mouth of the river. That's the first one I've seen there in the 6-7 years that I have fished the river
Nice day just the same
Was on the North River too, and saw the same seal - a first for me too. He was eating someting, but probably shad.... I got skunked as well, but wasn't fishing all that hard.

There have been seals in the River for years. One of their favorite hang-outs is on the floating dock in the middle of the mussel beds West of Damons Point. They seem to make the River a migratory pit stop on the way to the Outer Cape I suppose. Last couple of weeks there have been as many as twenty in there at a time. I wouldn't be suprised if they are mainly interested in the abundant shad this time of year. Good news is they usually clear out as the water warms from the headwaters and more fisherman and boaters take to the River.
I've seen the seals out at the mouth before, and by damons point. But I saw him all the way down at Kings Landing, almost all the way to the Union Street Bridge. I'd agree with you that he's chasing shad...
