I have a 12' Wilderness Pungo w/bulkhead that I'm rigging for striper fishing. I'm trying to get info about whether a permanent mount transducer will work in this model. I have been told that the readings will be distorted because the transducer will not be exactly perpendicular to the bottom. My other option would be a portable model which is my second choice.
Any advice?

I have a pungo 140 and I have mine mounted inside the yak. I get a perfect reading shooting through the hull. If you search the kayak forum you should be able to find a post with pictures of how I mounted it. Mine is easy on/off with a ram mount and screw in cup transducer.

I have a similar model and set up mine based on Slappy's with a minor tweak here and there. Works great, easy to setup and minimal cost.

Slappy,
I remember your old post that illustrated how you mounted the transducer and found it to be darn good solution. I've drilled into the search engine but can't find your original posting- Think you can find it for us and post it again?

Thanks Mate!

I'm still happy with how this works. Thanks to whoever I stole the idea from!

You can use duct tape and vasolene.
Works real good and lasts a long time if done right.
As long as you have no air between the hull and transducer you will be ok.
I wouldnt worry about distortion there tons of guys with fishfiners in there yak.You could put your transducer on a plastic bag full of water in your yak and it will work.

Slappy that looks like the rig I had posted .Mine came off using the Marine Goop after 4 months.Lexel might be better.I didhave mine in a area that got flexed from my truck saddles .So that might have done it.Never tried again just went back to the good old duct tape.

JoeV,
I used the duct tape and vasolene version last season and each time I loaded the yak onto my racks the transducer was knocked loose by the assortment of bags, batteries and boxes that I keep stored inside the hull. Poor placement on my part I realize... ("try taking the crap out of the yak before you put it on the racks" said PaulyFish...) (#$119)

When allowed to stay in place the duct tape works great- I'm looking for a more permenant solution.

I'll try the "Slappy-Joe" pvc method but will augment with West System epoxy for adhesion promotion. --127-3-

If you use alot of tape it wont move :D
I put it across the trany 10-12 pcs in a circular pattern.

ChemFly, this has worked well for me over the years. The pictures are self explanatory. When cutting the soft closed cell foam the transducer should fit nice and tight inside the foam. You can use vasolene if you want to take the transducer out after every trip. If you want it semi permanent you can use either 100% GE clear silicone caulking or marine goop. If you use the silicone or goop you need to let the transducer sit in it for 3 full days before using the unit. The
