I am planning on converting most of my saltwater flies to circle hooks for better catch and release. Unfortunately, my saltwater fly boxes using ripple foam or flat foam don't hold circle hooks in place. I have been using a box with sections (no foam), but the flies tend to slide around in their sections, hackle and bucktail tend to get warped, etc. A friend has been using nubby tack boxes but doesn't tie many flies on circles. Are nubbies the way to go or are there other options of which we are not aware?

I've been using the X-large Morell boxes (Orvis has a version made by Morell as well), and they have a raised ridge in them that accept circles.

I've had no problems with holding my circle flies...

I use the x-large saltwater boxes by Morell as well and they work great. They float too!

Use a finsport wallet. I import them into the Uk from the States, Dont regard this as a commercial post as you would be able to get one cheaper and with more ease in the USA.

Heres a link to my site , so have a look. Bearsden sell them in the States. My Morell and C&F boxes are history now, although I carry one small box for crab and shrimp patterns

the 6x 3 '' suits average salty patterns the 8 x 4 suits big Tarpon flies etc

****We also have UK viewers. The link was cut. If you wish to advirtise on this site please contact admin. Thanks for understanding.****

Dumb! question. why would you change ALL your flys to C-HOOKS. are you not shore on when to set the hook? you do know you will have to LET the fish do the SETTING for you! is this a CONSERVATION thing? just looking for IMPUT on WHY only a FEW want to convert to C-HOOKS. after 40 years of fishing the salt. Im happy w/ my hooks productivity. NEVER had a striper swallow a fly YET!.

I had the same problem, with hackle and other stuff, getting all bent and twisted from being in the sectioned tackle boxes....Is there anyway to fix them with out retying them??

Nubbies work great- I have a couple for my albie/bonito flies, many of which are tied on circles (I love the Owner Mutu circle lights- great hooks!)
