Folks-

My son and I are hoping to try J-Bay this spring late April / early May. He has school break in late April and there's the tourney in early May (not that I have a chance of being competitive - but I'd have fun :-) We'd likely camp at Bennett field for a few days. We are reasonably experienced w/ yaks. Joey is fly/spin wereas I am reluctant to give up the fly.

Not looking for any particular spots. But basic advice appreciated. Looking through prior threads I think this topic may be well covered, but the board is slow and I'm hoping someone else has spring fever and can point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance!

Dave, check to see if you can camp at Floyd Bennet Field with the National Park Service. I hope you can but I suspect not. Bass should be showing signs of activity in your time frame back in the Bay.

You will need a launch permit if you plan on launching your kayak at FBF. That whole area is a terrific place to fish and all is within a short paddle from the FBF launch ramp.

Folks-

Thanks for the logistics help. I'll call the park in the morning and inquire about camping. If I can't find lodging similar to camping I'll likely punt and stay on the Hudson or go down the Catskills or something. Joey has a week off from school - so we're going somewhere....

KayakerStan- I appreciate your posts/pics from prior years. Nice fish - particularly the weaks!!

Thanks Again!

The weakfish was just incredible last year but so was the striper fishing. I'm sending you a PM.

Well guys, after reading some articles and doing some thread searching, I was pretty psyched to try J-Bay during the spring school break. So, hearing I may not be able to obtain a camping permit was depressing. But... I lucked out.... I got one --127-3-

Great, I'm very happy that what I suspected about camping there was incorrect. The J Bay and its denizens await you, be ready.
