I have really enjoyed the threads on crab and shrimp flies! Does anyone have favorite worm patterns for bonefish?
Thanks,

Check the archives on this forum for my "Bonetwiggle" fly. It's an epoxy fly (epoxy bead-chain head) with a silicone twister tail trailing. Worked good for me and my buddy on Eleuthera last couple years.

Al,
Some years back, at the guides insistance, I had to keep a batch of bonefish for his family's cookout. I wasn't too cool with this, but it's his turf, so what could I do?
Anyway, the good part of this was, I got to clean the bonefish at day's end. Their bellies were crammed with tiny marine life of all sorts. Mostly tiny spiral-shaped mussels of some sort. But, they did have quite a few worms, or worm-like things as well. But, they weren't the typical seaworms we have up here. These were more on the size of paper matchsticks. Tubular, and crusty in appearance.
If I were to try and formulate a worm fly for bonefish, I might base it on an "inch worm" trout pattern. Keep the colors really toned down. Maybe a couple strands of beige/tan Sili-legs for a tail. Then dub in your body, and segment it with a fine gold wire to give it the rings seem on marine worms.

Several years ago I was on Long Is. and having good luck with any fly I put in front of the fish so I decided to try the Rubber Band Worm from Dick Brown's Book (pg. 106 ) and the guide said that fly will never work, well the first three casts I had fish so I hand the rod to the guide and he catches a fish to this day he says it shouldn't work but go figure.I think the moral of the story is put it in front of them and they'll eat.
