Well as usual I have goofed around all winter and tied a minimal amount of flies, and have no flies tied for the upcoming trout season. Was curious to what some of your favorite tandem Spring Nymph Selections are for early spring conditions. Primarily fishing Maine Rivers where the water will be 34-40 degrees, with not a ton of Hatch Activity.
My go to choice
size 16 pheasant tale with a smoke beadhead, and crystal flas wrapped body, with a size 20 cooper john(hacked up version) trailer.....
any photos would be helpful.

I almost always fish dry to a dropper. Starting early season with a griffiths gnat and a black zebra midge below it then I switch over to a parachute adams and trail either a prince, or hare's ear.
then again I'm in the rockies and won't fish new england again for at least another two months. --125-3

Fishing basically only Maine rivers, and primarily the Kennebec, my nymph set-up, year round is a tunghead black, brown or yellow stone with an rubber leg copper john dropper. I fish only tungheads and very rarely add extra weight, preferring to fish a very long leader and indicator. I will sometimes substitute a a small hare's ear soft-hackle tunghead or caddis pupae on the dropper and a larger tunghead flashback hare's ear on the point. Works for me. --125-3

All depends on the river I'm fishing, flows and time of year. Fom Olive Buggers with prince dropper to stimulators with olive or tan larvae.

Starting May, I'll be rolling big, heavy gold and/or black stones (6, 8 and 10) along the bottom with a bright green Brassie dropper (16 and 18) or pearl caddis larvae (16 and 18). I call them Brassies but they're really just lazy Copper Johns. The Stones are truly heavy for larger rivers like the West Branch and the Moose. Smaller river, smaller sizes.

Thank you, I am trying to expand my nymph selection for spring time dredging. The past few nights I have kinda been all over the place wasting time experimenting with stuff, I guess rusty from thinking about snow instead of fish. However, I think I found my groove tonight and ready to bang out some flies in the nights ahead..
pearl caddis sounds intresting. how much white or pearl do you go?
