I have a stearns inflatable kayak and am thinking about taking it with me to NYC. It is pretty durable but I would be resitant to use it in an area witg lots of oysters or sharo rocks. What is to topography of Jamaica Bay i.e. sandy, muddy, grass flats, shallow, etc... thanks.

I can't believe no-one responded to your question. Jamaica should be fine for inflatable Kayak. The back bay is shallow & mostly mud flats & grass lots of places to shallow for boat traffic. There is GREAT spring & fall fishing for Stripe Bass & Blues in the bay. You need to watch out for the boat traffic there are a lot of Run & gun fisherman in the bay also.
If you stay in shallow & on the mud flats you should NO Problems & great fishing
GOOD LUCK

Great area for that - and don't forget flounder - i've caught plenty on jigs in JB - in about 3 feet of water. I suspect a white clouser would work well. They seem to be more prevalent - or at least more ubiquitous than stripers or blues and also seem to bite well in mid-day.

I fished in the Jam Bay kayak tournament last year. What I saw was mud flats and some shells. It's a great spot for kayaks in general.I have 0% experience with inflatables so I cant comment other than its a great yak spot.Lefty
