Yesterday was the first I've wet a line since last fall. I decided to head to Winnipesauke to check out the salmon bite. When I got to my UDL it was snowing to beat the band. I then turned my attentions to moving water and found shelter in the incoming stream.
After scouting the area I came upon a rising fish that was taking something very small off the surface. This was a bruiser! I through every small pattern I had in my streamer wallet, but not even a look. Once it even porpoised over my leader.
Frustrated, I hadn't brought my vest and midges I moved down stream to another likely spot. Roll cast out into a pool and the egg pattern found its mark in mid swing. I lifted the rod and tagged a beautiful 18"+ rainbow. After the battle, I had to cut the fly off even though it was barb less because it was hooked so deep . Not a bad way to christen my new, home made 4 wt rod.
Going back this evening armed with my midges, looking for the other fish. :)
