Is it necessary to follow the specific torque specifications when replacing my prop? Yamaha calls for 40lbs which would seem like right about what you would get by hand tightening with a normal prop wrench. Am I off track here?

Thanks,

Sean

You're on track. Ultimately you'll probabaly have to adjust it a little tighter or looser so that the nut retainer propery fits into the slots/holes/etc.

Don't forget to use a new SS cotterpin. Not sure about winging it on the torque, you'll probably be alright. I take mine off about twice a year, Once in the Spring to blast the carb cleaner through and once 1/2 way through the season to re-lube. I use a torque wrench on the plugs and lower unit bolts but just tighten the hell out of the prop nut.
