Hi,

I'm planning a flyfishing trip to the Lincoln/Enfield ME area in mid-July for smallmouths. I have that pretty much figured out, but was looking for some pond (w/canoe) or stream trout fishing in the area. I've reviewed the ME F&G site, but there isn't much info regarding trout fishing in that area. I'd appreciate any help with locations and access. Thanks.

You're easy striking distance to the West Branch and sourdahunk from there, only about an hour. I don't know much about the East Branch, but it's also close, but access is a little tricky by road. The EO is a little farther, but worht the trip IMHO.

Timing in Maine is everything when it comes to trout/salmon fishing.

By mid-July it is highly likely that surface temps of most ponds will exceed 70 degrees. Ditto for many streams that flow between lakes. That is too warm for brook trout. The most predictably good summertime coldwater fishing near there is the West Branch Pennobscot below Ripogenous dam. It is a tailwater and stays cold year-round. Big, dangerous to wade water -- requires a wading staff. The WB is mostly a salmon river with a few trout mixed in. I know a couple of worthwhile trout spots near there that may still be fishing well at that time, but I won't list them on a public forum. Email or PM me if you want more detailed information.

Hi:

Consider Grand Lake Stream...you're not too far from there. Here is a link to a place I have stayed at a couple times while in that area.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the information folks. (Been away for a couple of days)

I figured I might be pushing the trout fishing in July, but I can usually get some good fishing in at that time in Northern NH, so I figured ME might come through. It's worth spending some time trying.

I'll check out the areas you mentioned Titleguy. If nothing happening, perhaps I'll head to western ME before I come home.

Palms44, I've fished GLS before, but as you say, for salmon about mid May and it was great. We also caught some trout. I understand it becomes a very good smallmouth stream too later in the season. I'll check out your link.

EricL, thanks for the offer, I'll email you.
