View Full Version : Receiver Hitch Guide
Does anyone know if there is a receiver hitch guide on the market for the trailer specifically? I think I have seen one for the vehicle ball but not the trailer itself?
Thanks,
Ray

not exactly sure what you are asking...
but if you mean an "aid" to align and hook up your trailer, here's what I've seen.
Visually
I use the upright of my trailer winch as a clue.
I've seen fiberglass or metal wands attached by the
coupler.
There is a hitch that has a hinge in it... just get close..
swing the hitch to hookup.... pull forward to align the
hitch again and insert a pin.
Best bet is to have a fishing buddy..... or practice allot! :-%
Thanks Jim.
What I'm looking for is to find out if anyone makes a guide that is part of the trailer itself. An addition to the part that helps guide the ball into the portion that receives it. basically a funnel-type device. Something that is currently on the market, not some we may have seen that are homemade.
I know there are some guides that attach to the vehicle hitch portion already on the market.
Thanks,
Ray

another thought.... how big is the boat? Most boats under 20 feet can be moved by one person (those last 3" inches you missed by --123-3 ). Sometimes just being a brute helps!!!!!

When I hop out of my jeep wrangler I don't set the parking brake. If I'm a few inches off but lined up correctly I can grab onto the roll bar and pull her back with ease.
note- I do not use the wrangler to tow the boat. I use it to launch at the ramp where I do land storage.

Ray, the new overtons cat came in the mail a couple days ago. they have
a funnel device that mounts under the ball that helps with alignment.
I have a chev 2500hd and a boston whaler montauk. my truck has a front
reciever that is very handy in tight quarters. When I hook up to rear I
have an old magnet mount CB ant that I put on the hitch to help. I also
have a homemade mag mount mirror I put on my tailgate.
My next purchase is guide ons for my trailer because I can't see my
trailer without the boat on it.
If you are interested in a front hitch I can help you out. I can fabricate
one for any vehicle.

Ray,
I have seen a pretty basic setup that I think gets at what you are looking for but can't find a link. It is similar to what Moxie is doing as well and could be made with a trip to the craft store rather easily I would think. The basic premise was two dowel sticks spray painted orange with light magnets on the base of each. Put one on your ball and one on the hitch. Line them up as you back up and when the one on your ball starts to tip over toward the truck you know you are under the coupler. I was thinking of doing this myself but haven't gotten around to it. I think the add I saw was looking for about $30 for the setup but I am guessing it could be made for less than $10.

Ray, instead of trailering your pungo it may be easier to get a step stool so that you can reach the top of your truck. ;)
