Jay,

You have good access from Kankamaugus Hghy. abov lincoln to the W. Branch and then along Rte.175 from N. Woodstock to Thornton. Can be a tough river to fish; especially if the runoff is still forcing high water but well worth the effort. I like the section from the 175 bridge out of N.Woodstock to the Thornton Gore Road but haven't fished it in over 5 years.

If the Pemi is too hight, suggest you run over to Campton and fish the Mad River below the dam on the road into Waterville Valley

Water in ct is real low right now, so NH shouldn't be much different. Was on the CT river last night striper fishing, it was like summer levels. got 1 24" bass.

If you check on FlyfishinginNH.com you should get some info for the area. I know a couple of members are fishing there right now.

fished nymphs and streamers on the pemi in the thornton/camton area. Saw no signs of life in the river. Small midge hatch from time to time. Fished for 7 hours, Covered over a mile of river at 2 spots. No rises or strikes.

/\ That's been my experience the few times I've been up there too. Pretty area with clean (i.e sterile) water and very little bug activity ... i.e. very little trout food. Pretty much a put-and-take fishery I think.

There are some really big trout in that stretch of river. That said, the best time to fish for them is just at dusk in the summer with dries matching the hatch that's coming off. However, I'd rate the river a half mile above and below Campton as twice as productive; but again, in the summer with dries.

Between 1969 and 2001 we had a camp off the Thornton Gore Road and fished that section frequently.
