What ever happened to Johnson? I heard they went bankrupt and now I found out they were bought by Bombardier. I ask b/c I am looking at a boat with a 1999 Johnson 150 and am concerned that their more recent year engines (prior to acquisition) might have been sub-standard. Does anyone have a view on Johnson and/or on the 1999 model year? The Johnson / Bombardier website tells the "Story", but what's the real story.
Thanks.
Andy

It all depends on if they were fuel injected, or carborated. THe FICT were what I belive they had real problems with.

I had a 2000 Johnson 90hp 2-stroke carboreted that I put over 800 hours on before trading it in this spring for an Etec 90. Solid engine.

I have a 1999 115 Johnson 2 stroke....very solid engine. they love oil (and gas, for that matter), but never had a problem with her. Stryper I believe is correct - it was the fuel injected engines that had some problems.
Awesome hole shot with the 115.....

Johnson and Evinrude have always (well at least in the last 50 years) been part of the same family (OMC and more recently Bombardier) and for many years, were identical engines. The introduction of the Evinrude e-tec is really the first major diversion of the two brands.
The Johnson and Envinrude service network is extensive and parts are readily available.
