Has anybody have a recommendation as to a guide to use while I am on Eluethera? I am staying at the Rainbow Inn just north of Governors Harbour. I will be there from the 20th to the 28th of May. I plan on DIY for most of the trip but I can afford one or two days guided. Thanks.

I was down there 2 months ago. First time there and only second time bonefishing.

Seems like the most recommended guide there is Paul Petty. He's based out of Governer's Harbour.

My buddy and I used Alfred McKinney down in Deep Creek. Was purely accidental as I was just buying a beer in at the local bar during lunch and he was sitting there. I was skeptical (especially since he's 71) however by the end of the half-day we could hardly keep up with him. He put us on a lot of fish and worked hard for us. He's a little cheaper than other guides...

Do a search as a few posts lists all the guides and their numbers.

Have fun!

Paul Petty cell 12425577269 $$$$$$

Gershum Pinder out of Hatchet bay, you will use your car and he is very reasonable, cell 12425577269.

Ronnies bar there is another gentleman , I believe his name is Nelson, he will take you out in his skiff for huge bonz and pay him what you think the trip was worth.

Had a Blast again and caught Grunts,Needlefish,Reef Jacks, cudas and of course Bonz.

Try Joes bar the steak is awsesome brand new setup near tippys.

Good luck and enjoy.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. BTW, Google Earth is almost cheating for Eluethera. They have very high res images of the area and it is a fascinating look at the island.

Ask around about David Nemore. He is orginally from Andros Island - Cargill Creek. Great guide there. I understood that he has gone to Eluethera. If you get any info about him. Let me know.

David has the sweetest cast I've ever seen. It is tight, flawless, and long. If the bonefishing was half what Andros was I'd sched a trip right now.

I fished with Denny Rankine two half days in February in Savannah Sound, tough first day, great second day. He was a lot of fun and can certainly spot fish. Have a blast; Eleuthera is way too much fun. :-%

as per your suggestion (thanks!) .... I contacted Denny. Still exchanging e-mails .... he must get his e-mail @ the library (slow turnaround).

Question is: what kind of boat does he work out of? He told me he also does reef fishing charters also , and I was wondering if the boat is ocean worthy?

Thanks

Thanks for all the info! Three days away and JAZZED... I have about three hundred hand tied flies, five rods, six reels, sick shades, and large stones, because I am going to give it a whirl solo style. I will arrange a guide as necessary, but I think it can do it without one... Maybe I will be humbled and break to getting a pro (It is can be hard for guides to get guided...) It isn't that I wouldn't catch more fish with a pro, but I aim to catch my first one WITHOUT one... The large lists that Y'all have provided should give me enough options, that should I have a rough time of it, somebody will be available to give me a hand should my arrogance prove larger than my skills. Thanks again.

Jim- He has three boats- the one I fished out of is 17' panga type glass boat with about a 25 hp on it. He poles it, but once you get to good wading areas, anchor up and go for a walk. Other than being a little underpowered, I would think the panga is very seaworthy. He also has a 17' trophy cc with a 70? on it. Looked pretty new. Finally, he's got a 23' ? cuddy with an older yamaha on it. All looked in pretty good shape. Yeah, Denny's e-mail is a little crotchety. He's fun; he's got some very good stories.

Endgin- you certainly can do it on your own. The thing I found the hardest was seeing the sumb&*%^es. I actually found that I could often hear tailing fish before I saw them, particularly on the grass flats in Savannah Sound. The tides are definitely key too. How long are you there for? If you have the time, I would put the effort in down south ( Cape Eleuthera, Deep Creek, etc.) The fish aren't as big, but they don't get the pressure of Savannah Sound either. My DIY was fairly successful and I was a first time bonefisherman as well. Size 6 silli leg tan gotcha was the money fly for me. Enjoy those Kaliks and make sure to hit the Fish Fry in Governor's if your there on a Friday night. :-%

I have got eight days to figure it out. I printed about forty pages of maps off of google earth down to itty bitty res, and it definitely looks like the southern end of the island is hot. I imagine a few less bodies as well, as it is further from the pop. centers like Harbour Island. Got the tide charts for both sides of the island while I am there, I think I about as prepped as I can be. My casting is about as tight as I can get it, the lines are clean it is game time!!! Thanks for everything I will try to post a report/photos when I return.

Just a couple valuable pointers for you...

...tides times for the Carribean-side of "South" Eleu. are at least a good hour or more earlier than those detailed on the commonly available tide tables.

...get some workouts in on a stairmaster or something like that. Many of the flats you'll encounter in S-Eleu. are extremely "hummoky" and can tire a person out quickly.

...stay away from grassy patches near any creek channels. The bottom transition from sand to foot-sucking ooze takes place in no more than a step or two. I got stuck last year and quickly sunk up to my thighs in the stuff.

I'm really looking forward to your trip report and photo's upon your return. One thing that you might consider, is that you refrain from posting place names or directions to the "new" spots you find. Remember, when it's posted on the internet...the whole world hears. Spots with few or no anglers now...may be over-run your next time down.

Best regards and have a super time...
