Mystic Lakes "Herring Brigade"

From an elist I'm on.....

The Medford Boat Club is sponsoring a "Herring Brigade" to help the herring on their annual plight to reach the Upper Mystic Lake to lay their eggs. Meet at the Dam between the upper and lower Mystic lakes with your bucket or net if you have one.

Friday, May 26th — 6 a.m. til noon
Saturday, May 27th — 6 a.m. til noon

We use to go there when we were kids, catch them by hand and throw them up the falls. They should put a fish ladder there, there is no way they can make it up those falls they are six feet tall straight up. Back then the only way some use to get up were through undergroud crevasses under the falls. Most of them end up dying right there at the dam or get scooped up by some degenerates scoring free dinner by the van full with coolers!

I grew up in Medford. Back in the late 50s, when tidal water went to the
Main St locks, we used to snag them with big treble hooks. I can remember
once a day the fire dept would show up when a kid would fall in. On a good
day after school there would be 100 kids fishing.
I wish I knew then what I know now.
