I was desparate for some time on a river so after a quick check of flows around the state, we made a quick trip to the Millers in the catch and release area. The rain actually was not too bad and we fished under a bridge so we were largely protected. The flows were a bit fast but we could wade and using heavily weighted flies had a decent morning getting numerous hookups and 6 fish to hand. Between the 2 of us we had 2 browns, 2 rainbows (including a 16 inch beauty), 1 brook trout, and 1 fiesty smallmouth (kind of a Miller's grand slam). The guy at Flagg's told me they had just put 900 large brown trout into the C&R area on Thursday (although we did not get any large browns)! So once the flows ebb a bit the river should be in great shape this week.

Nice report. I fished a spot on Lake Cotituate and caught a few browns on Saturday. They were roughly in the 10-12" range. Tough fishing in the heavy rain, but I too needed to get out and fish. Once this rain subsides I'll think about making the trek out to the Millers. That river scares me after heavy rains...The current gets pretty strong and it makes wading real tough, but then again 900 large browns might make me do something crazy ;) . We'll see.

The current was a bit brisk in spots. We waded out to the middle of the river when we arrived and basically fished one area for about 3 hours. When we turned around to walk back we noticed that the river had come up a good 8-12 inches (a few rocks we had rested our gear on were now covered wth water). Fortunately I had my wading staff which helped tremendously. Always important to keep your eye on height of the river while wading. The things we do to catch a few fish (#$119) .
