The schoolies are finally trickling in in Southern Maine. While I have yet to go out, others have reported to me that small to moderate numbers of schoolies have been caught in the Mousam, Scarborough River, York River, Ogunquit River, and the Presumpscot. There have also been unsubstantiated reports of 30 fish days on the Mousam, but reliable buddies of mine report that they have to work pretty hard to get fish. Generally the ticket is fishing deep and slow on the outgoing tide at the river mouths, using 300-500 grain heads and small flies. It's probably also worth a try working some upriver holes on the dropping tide. It's a good way to get away from the crowds.

Stay tuned for the northern New England Fishwire in a couple weeks. By then the fish should be thick and some big ones should be trickling in. Tight lines,
