Being prepared (clothing and emergency equip.) definitely got these guys home- just something to consider......
(and the R-T archives are full of specific recommendations)
Let me help some people out on this one-whatever was number one on your list move to number two. Replace it with, "Don't go out in rediculously unsafe conditions. Either go out in a more substantial craft or go play golf."
If they went out in a small craft warning, as I read somewhere that they did, those guys were just asking for trouble. Even if they didn't, while they were extremely smart in what they packed and wore, based on the pictures of them getting plucket out by the CG, their initial decision making is still suspect. I'm glad their safe, "He gave his life for a striper" is a poor epitath.
Be safe!

Heard/watched this all unfold from work and talked to the guys when they came to pick up one of two kayaks (they were in search of the other after they got plucked out of the water and had to leave it). There was no sane reason to go out where they were yesterday, 5-8 foot breakers and a 20 knot NNE. The one good thing is that they went prepared, for what reason they went I dont know. The two 47s corking around in the surf was a cool to watch, but just a tease to the guys in the water because they could not be reached.
Glad they made it home safe, moral of the story dont mess with mother nature.

"Don't go out in rediculously unsafe conditions. Either go out in a more substantial craft or go play golf."
Agreed- and on some days, a more substantial craft is bigger than anybody here's got!
I didn't mean to infer otherwise- my point about being appropriately prepared is for the non-Darwin Award contestants on the board.....
