Well, I stayed over at El Pescador on Ambergris from June 1st-6th. There were tons of bonefish, and me and my buddy managed to slay quite a few, along with the typical mixed bag of snapper, jacks, and ladyfish that Belize will always produce. Many people managed to land several permit, which I found very surprising. The amount of permit around Ambergris is often times understated. They are definitely there, and there is a good number of them. We spent two days looking for tarpon. We saw a couple of rollers in the 120lb range, but they vanished out of sight before we could get in casting range. On our first day, a couple of guys that were also at the lodge hooked 6 tarpon with Nesto and boated 3 in the 80-100lb range. From what I've noticed, the tarpon fishing in Ambergris is compared to the Florida Keys quite often. I think that people shouldn't attempt this comparison. The sight fishing in Northern Belize is great, but the Florida Keys are in a world of their own. Bottom line, don't go there expecting not to work to find the tarpon; there are them of them present, but remember that there is an absolutely massive barrier reef, so tarpon aren't always on the flats. It requires a little more patience and skill. All in all, I had more fun on this trip than any other. Great fishing with great people will always make the difference.
