This years Eleuthera trip was a great time, again. A few notes.. The bones were picky in comparision to last year, especially at Ten Bay and Savannah Sound. Most of my fish on my own came from the atlantic beach side, mainly along the surf line, which was very light due to the S'west wind. The locals are very nice, genuine people. There is a strong Christian influence in the island, and it shows.

Overall, we caught a third as many fish as the year before. The bugs were real bad, especially right after the numerous rain showers. Ultrathon has 37% deet cream, splash resistant, that worked very well.

Overall, I caught 8 fish, two were 4-5 lbs, fished a few hours each afternoon around numerous rain showers.. I fished with Paul Petty again. I really enjoy fishing with Paul. I did well on my own too, but Paul is very helpful in many ways. He is open to offer advice about the island in general and is a gentleman guide. The rain hurt us bad, but we still managed three fish..

Most fish were hitting a #6 Gotcha in tan and pink. I caught one of the tormented bones (see below) on an unweighted shrimp pattern in Ten bay. 10 lb flourocarbon leaders 10-12ft in length... A guy on the plane home fished with Denny Raskine (sp?) and they had a great trip with him.

The reef bite was very good, and we ate Muttons, Grouper, Yellowtail, Triggerfish, all caught off the shore/beach. Most were caught on conventional tackle - Berkley Gulp is cheating in Eleuthera. Tippys is still the only real dining option. We brought our own cooler in with meats, ect. We bought groceries and cooked on our own mostly. Joes Bar was very, average at best. The server was very strange. The pizza tasted like tombstone. The frozen vegeis were mediocre. The sunset inn is okay and is the only second option to Tippy's, IMO. Tippys is very good.

Ten Bay Chicken Man

We rented place on Ten Bay. This is flat that will hold a small school of small bones in the summer, and produced well for us last year. Not this year. Here is why: The small school of small bonefish working the flat, that produced for us early in the week, got terrorized. I witnessed two fisherman, who obviously just got off the plane, totally demoralize any potential fish in Ten Bay. One guy in red was wading briskly, almost to his waist, and frantically blind casting. Another was running around like a chicken along the bank, apparently scared to enter the water. He had a HUGE fanny pack.

Chicken man did make the occasional cast. He actually spotted the helpless school. To top it off, Chicken man actually caught a small bone working near the shore. He proceeded to drag it up on the sand, and begin to take numerous photographs of the fish like a Japanese tourist. The bonefish spent a good five minutes out of the water, and died. They returned to fish again for 5-6 hours the next day, and struck out. Chicken man led the charge, literally chasing the small school around the bay. You have to wonder why? If you know anyone who fished ten bay sometime around June 7th and 8th, help them out a little. Thanks.

Stormy, I thought the chicken man story was gonna end with some spicy thighs, peas and rice and a cold Kalik! :brow
Imagine my dissapointment --124-3
Glad you caught some. Eleuthera doesn't give up her bounty to just anyone- OK, maybe to the chicken man, but nobody else  lol!
