I just found out that I am probably moving to the Hartford , CT area. I am going tobe really bummed out if I can't fly fish for big fish anymore!!

I am going to bring my 20 ft Center Console with me. Are there any towns along the Connecticut River where you can enjoy a boating/fishing lifestyle?

Also are there trout streams in the area?

Can anyone help me here.

I can't help you with the boating but you will have the Farmington River and the Housatonic River as well as a bunch of nice small streams all within 1 hr drive. The Farmington and Housatonic are 2 of the best trout rivers in New England with steady hatches and good size, educated fish. Enjoy!

Ditto to Benmed on the trout streams...you will be very well situated for those. And, yes, you can run your center console all up and down the CT. Stripers go well upriver and there are many large tributaries between Hartford and the ocean. You will survive!!!

In my opinion, the trout streams in CT are some of the best in New England. Glastonbury is a good choice for a town with CT river access. Stripers do indeed come up the river. Northern Pike and other species are good targets as well. Don't forget that you are not that far from the coast. You could keep your rig in New London or somewhere else on the sound.

As my name indicates I am a real novice doing this fishing thing, especially fly fishing. However, I do live in the Hartford area--in Glastonbury. Glastonbury is on the CT river south east of Hartford. I do not think there are any ramps in G'bury but there are in East Hartford, just north of Glastonbury, and in Wethersfield and Rocky Hill across the river. There is a small marina in Glastonbury.
