help
these tarpon have blown out my arm and elbows! i am now an ibuprofen addict thanks to them.
i live on a small carribean island. tarpon are few and far between except after it rains for a few days. At this time there are some bays where plenty tarpon will come in. they range in size from 25-90lbs. the bay ranges from 2ft to 6ft deep. the fish are often a few feet from shore. they are rising, jumping. rolling, and finning ..they're doin everythin with the exception of takin my offering!
the water in the shallow bays are extremely unclear - sandy coloured. they're are lots of sardine fry but i dont know if the tarpon are targeting these fry or the fish chasing the fry. the shallow bay has some grass, rocks and corral so its tough to let the fly sink too much because of hookups on the bottom.
i've hooked one fish about 40lbs. and played it for a few minutes. i used a dark green clouser about 3in. long with a slow 8inch retrieve. i've tried the same fly many times since but no luck.
My ma's gonna be real upset about her kid havin an abuse problem so if you've got the least bit of pity in you, you'll tell me a few of your hard earned secrets for catchin these unbelievable fish in shallow muddy conditions... hey, its for my mum sake... have a heart!!!!
cheers
