I felt like the stupid berringer ad..."Excuse me, how do you get to the North Shore from here?
"Oh thats easy...yah go two blocks past the dunkin donuts, take a left, then go to the another block and ask for pete.."
"Pete?"
Pete, yeah he's the bar tender...tell him to pour you some ipswich ale..."
"Oh... i See"
That would have been a much better plan
Basically heres the way to day went.
6:15 leave harbor, head to salem to try to scout pogies. The wind and seas make this virtually impossible. Next plan...run out to halfway rock and try for some pollock.
7:00 after getting the sh*t pounded out of us, reach halfway rock. Mark tons of fish at about 70 feet. no Bait, throw a jig, no bass. Im thinking doggies, but not worth sticking around to find out.
7:30 Head to newcombs...troll for blues....no dice. nothing on the fish finder, nothing on the reel. Btw, water temp is between 52 and 54 outside the harbor.
9:30 Head into Manchester...overpriced breakfast at Beach Street
10:10 quick trip to "read the paper"
10:15 hit a couple tiny little snapper blues trolling just outside the of the harbor
10:30-11:30 watch said tiny little snapper blues get the crap scared out of them as they are chased around various islnad, rock piles etc by marginally larger stripers. Listen to coast guard report of capsized sailboat at coney island ledge, and Oh yeah, it started raining too.
12:00 back in port. write frustrated report. Nap.
2:00 - TBD. Buy Kettle one...add tonic...grill steaktips which have been marinating since last night as backup plan.
Overall a real slow day. No action up top (couldnt see over rollers anyway), Nothing trolling 20-30 feet. Too cold for live bait. Too sh*tty for staying out there.
Hey, they cant all be winners. Anyone else have any luck?
