If someone were looking for the most basic, least expensive kayak, where/what kind? It will be predominantly used for moving water less than class II and only in the summer months. I was wondeing if a "sit-on" may be better than a "sit-in" for my wife's purposes, which is lazy paddling on relatively easy rivers. Any suggeations would be appreciated.

I'd recommend some type of sit on top, that way you don't have to worry about skirts, float bags etc. Just a paddle and life jacket and your off. Not sure about model though, sorry. However, I'd choose something a bit above entry level.

I guess my advice is to go somewhere where you can test paddle. We have a mix of SOTs and sinks in our group. The SOTs are 12' and feel slower and tip easier. I remain a big fan of Pungo's, and keep test paddling everything I can knowing sometime I'll find something better. Be it the Delaware for trout, small lakes, or the ocean, it's been kind to me. I do not worry aout a skirt... If it is truly that snotty I'm not going.
