I have narrowed my boat problems down to the fuel line-the bulb never stays hard even after multiple squeezes. It takes alot of squeezes to get fuel into the engine to start it. After running at higher speeds the engine cuts out if the bulb is not furiosly pumped. The boat is a 2006 with a 4 stroke suzuki. Any thoughts?

Is the whole rig, fuel line and all, from 2006? Anytime a primer bulb is suspect my first inclination is to replace it, as they cost < $20. FWIW the the OMC/Bomb primer bulbs are THE best in the industry, to the point where even my local Merc & Honda dealers install and recommend that OEM primer bulb.

That said, there is a check valve in them and in order to fill best/fastest, you want the OB end of the line after the bulb higher than the other part of the line when you squeeze it. This allows the check valve to be assisted by gravity.

If your rig is all 2006, usually the symptoms of 'always having to squeeze the primer bulb' is a fuel pump that is weak or dying, probably a pin hole leak in the diaphragm. Being it's a 2006 it should be under warranty ... your dealer should take care of this.

Please let us know how you make out, cheers :-% !

Not sure if it's symptomatic of these motors, but I have a 2004 Johnson 4-stroke (=Suzuki), and the bulb NEVER gets/stays hard. Never had a problem starting it (knock on wood!).
