When I'm not on the Vineyard pursuing our saltwater species I am often found launching my canoe in the muddy waters of the Charles River around Newton and Waltham. On one recent outing I came across a rather rare sight and had an interesting encounter with a Northern Water Snake :brow . Enjoy the show.

Hey Phil--
That was pretty neat. When I was a kid on vacation in Alabama about 35 summers ago I had a similar encounter with a 45" cottonmouth that tried to eat my stringer of bluegills and wound up snagged on my Mepps spinner--that caused quite a bit of dancing around!
See you in Sept. with Jeff, if not before--

That was pretty funny...did you catch any fish on the trip or just the snake?

Wormburner:

In answer to your question, I didn't catch anything as long as the snake that day but the day before I hauled this nice 5 1/2 pounder out of the lillies:

I forgot to add that the foot in the photo is mine and it's a 13D! I added it for scale.
