J, if you were trying to find a 9500 new that is no longer made give Penn a call again...
I saw a 950 at ICAST this past week. That series used to stop at the 850 but Penn caught so much crap for discontinuing the 9500 that they added an additional size to the newer line. Retail was about $130 I think. Also hear da rumor that they were coming out with one even larger in the 1050 or 10/0 size range type thing but that seems like it might be a bit overkill.

Aren't the replacements to the 7500, 8500 and 9500ss made in Asia now? I think the old model SS are the last of the USA made spinning reels from Penn. You can find them on Ebay, used and NIB.

not to hijack the thread, but from what I gathered all Penns are made in China. They also had a problem in production over the winter causing some of the smaller distributors to go well into may before they could get some. I got one, and I like it! (450 ssg)

Just wait a little while, I just saw a prototype of the new 950SSM (and some new Fin Nor offshore spinning reels). I'm not sure when they will be available but they are coming! Penn is being made in China but it's an American owned and operated factory, not subbed out. Oh, the International reels will continue to be made in the USA.
Hope this helps!

Give the guys at Snook Nook in Jensen Beach, FL, a call - they have the 9500ss still available brand new (the Made in USA variety).
