Well another banner evening at the old shad run. I must have hooked 25-30 fish in the course of 4 hours. I landed 6 shad and 1 sucker. Those of you that shad fish the Indian Head will understand the 1 to 6 ratio of fish landed to hooked. There is nothing like a 5-6' fish on 4lb. test in a narrow tree filled stream. Those fish are like little tarpon when hooked. More people around tonight around 10 in total. Some with fly and some with ultra-light. The tide and moon were almost perfect. The light breeze kept the bugs away. It was awsome. The shad ranged from 3# to 6# and the river was full of them. The tide was incoming all evening and the shad rode the tide up in waves. I almost forgot how much fun I used to have fishing for these "poor mans salmon" I guess I have to thank the S Shore Chapter of the CCA. I hear they did some work on the fish ladder up at the dam. I'm sure thats helping these little guys get up to the pond and keep the cycle going.
