O.K. I am about to give up. How are you suppose slide the dacron over your backing before tying a bimini? Also, once I do get it on, do I tie the ends into the bimini to clean it up?

Sam
use a loop of wire bent to travel thru the dacron.
push thru dacron.... put spectra or backing thru loop and thread thru dacron. (kinda like bobbin threading) then tie bimini.
Do you have the First Light video? .... they illustrate it nicely!

Don't have the video Jim but I think I got it now. What about the cut ends of the dacron?

It's just a neatness thing. ;)
When I twist up the bimini.... I'll wrap the dacron into 3 or 4 of the bottom twists.... then the overwraps down till over the dacron again. hitch off as normal. Binds the ends into the braid. I guess you could glue it as an alternative.
Hope that helps.

Finding the right thickness and stiffness of wire is tough. After 5 flyshops and hardware stores, I hit Guitar Center and picked up a couple fine guage strings. Folded one over on itself and it worked great.

You can use the Malin wire, anything under 200#'s will work just right.
I use a loop puller, picture a 6" needle with a wire loop on the end. If you want I can make you one at the shop from brass and ss wire. Let me know.
I think you are at the point Sam were you could really use one of the Aussie Top Shot rigging kits. They are expensive, but absolutley priceless.

That would be great Chris, thanks :) I'll send the Ruge Courier Service over. I would have no clue what to do with the top shot kits. Time to read up I guess.

Make topshots, for under $2 apiece. Quickly and easily rig bullet proof fly line connections, create blind splices in dacron, join dacron lines togehter, create wind on cable leader's, HOLY SNIKEEES, the list of fun is endless.
I'm out of the shop today, taking my 4 year old son to Roger Williams to see some dinosaurs, back to work tomorrow.
I'll pick up a few feet of brass stock, so if anyone else needs a puller let me know.

I guess I'm going to the wrong kind of fishin stores. Besides, guitar string is way more "McGuyver", don't you think?
