Hello all,
I'm in the New York metro area.... I like surfcasting and kayak fishing... for stripers and blues, mostly.
I was recently in Montana and had a blast flyfishing for trout, and I've often seen guys using fly gear in my area (with those little trays on their waist).
So i was thinking of trying to use flyfishing gear here and i wanted to know of some sturdy lowcost brands to check out, for starters.
Also is there a certain weight or other specification i should look for?
THanks.....

It depends what type of fish your looking for on weight. For striped bass and blues i would go with at least an 8 wt. and probably a 9 or 10. I would try orvis. They have some lower priced gear along with the expensive stuff. LLBean is good too. Hope this helps!

If you search this board for similar posts you'll find the combo of a Temple Forks rod and Tioga reel are frequently mentioned as an affordable setup with a good reputation.
