I live in Portland and resently tried to catch my first striper of the new season at Martins point with no luck. I was just wondering if anyone in Maine has seen or caught any stripers yet and if so were and on what. Thank You.

There is a little estuary outlet between Kennebunkport and Wells (I forget the name of it) that usually produces some good action this time of year.

I am not from your area, but the same techniques should work for you also. You want to get up into the rivers that drain into Portland Harbor. Move up into the river the first obstruction (steep rapids, dam, etc..)and find the bait thats were the fish will be. If you do not mind driving, go fish the Mousam River, which is an excellent outgoing tide river.

Hope this helps a little.

Did you miss the CCA-Maine Casco Bay Chapter's Annual Guides' Night last Thursday? We had 4 local guides doing presentations and slide shows on how, where, and when to fish for stripers in the greater Portland area. Join CCA and get involved with our efforts and our fishing here in the Casco Bay area. Call me at 846-7800.
