I picked up a TFO bluewater HD and matched it up with the RIO 600 grain levithan line. I'm a good caster(mostly up to 10wts) but this bad boy is giving me the fits. anyone throwing this rod of the line and have any suggestions. It seems that line is so heavy you really only get only one false cast and then let it ride. any one else using this or a similar set-up.

How many false casts do you want with a 600gr. line ? get the head out snap it once and let it go........anything else could get dangerous.

P.S.
I like the 500 gr. line better, nice match with a 12wt.

I have the same set-up with Ross BG-6. I had the same problem casting.
I tried a 500gr and it was better but still not what I was looking for.
The 400 throws like a dream. 6in hering fly into the wind is very doable.
The 600gr is great if you need that 11in per sec sink but it takes all
the fun out of casting.

Moxie,

I've got a BG #7 on it, you are right its no fun to cast, and thats why I like to fly fish b/c I like to cast. I think that I might drop the line down a few hundred grains to see if that makes it more enjoyable.

peter mac: I don't really want three false casts, I was just curious if anyone else found the line to be too keavy to enjoyable cast.
