I understand it's great. Buddy of mine here just caught a Mexican record mahi mahi - 79(?) lbs. His brother in law caught 60+ lb.

I was there for two weeks this past July!! We rented a house in Buena Vista about 30 something miles north of Los Cabos. Amazing place !! Very different from our usual vacation/fishing trip.To be honest,I was so taken by the place that I didn't fish my usual 24/7 like I would normally do. The Sea of Cortez with the backdrop of rugged mountains and desert is unforgettable to say the least.Very cheap to charter with a captain.Very cheap to eat like a king and they all but give the Corona away !!Our next door neighbor was a Captain. He is know very well locally.Retired from San Diego. He would take us out Marlin fishing for....get this....$74.00 a day..$50.00 for gas and $24.00 for live bait. Speaking of bait....tons !! Just snorkling off the beach you would be in giant schools of sardines.I have tons of info, pics, names of people, restaurants, police info, atv rental info, driving do's and don'ts etc.Do you guys speak any Spanish? Don't take your flies in carry on , on the way home !! They won't let you on the plane !!E-Mail me if you want. If you haven't booked a place to stay yet just keep in mind that we stayed in two unreal homes right on the beach for eight of us for two weeks for about $2800.
Have a blast,
Mark

Sounds like you hit the jackpot! I will definitely contact you for that info --127-3-
Cats- I think you are wise to begin your research now. As Mark said there are lots of great opportunities, but I must caution that there are also many bad ones. First of all, be aware that the MAJORITY of charter boats in this area KILL EVERYTHING. I know that there are lots of boats who don't, but the one's that typically charge "next to nothing" supliment their income by selling their catch, including marlin. If this concerns you, I'd advise you to be very wary of deals that sound too good to be true. I've read of many anglers who asked that fish be released, only to have the mate rip the hook out of the fishes mouth and proclaim that it was too wounded to survive. Mostly, these reports come from people who did little/no reserach and simply relied on the abundance of boats and picked one on the dock.
My one experience in Cabo was with the Pisces fleet in 1989. We had a half day to fish and we got 2 dorado (mahi-mahi, dolphin). Hardly epic by Cabo standards. BUT- I can say that this is one of the most reputable and long lasting outfits in Cabo and they are very willing to release a billfish. They are definitely not the cheapest, but still about half of what an off shore trip costs in the Carribean.
If flyfishing is your bag, I know one outfit that specializes in FF called Baja on the Fly. They post regular reports on some other websites. PM me if you would like any other references.
Good Luck-

Moderator- I have specifically not linked to websites because I am not aware if the operations mentioned are RT advertisers. If this mention is still a problem, let me know and I'll revise the post.

Anyone do any DIY fishing there? I would love to walk the beach a morning or two if it is at all worth fishing. Any suggestions? I'll be at a wedding at the Fiesta Americana in Cabo. I'm easy to please, don't need 50 lb Roosters (would be nice though), casting to 2 lb spanish mackerel is enough to put a smile on my face.
Widdoes...feel free to post the links. Users posting and recomending is no problem, its when the actual outfits post links that we try to avoid. Thanks for the info.
There is a user "BAJA" who also posts reports on the fly, same guy I believe.
