I'm thinking about a 4 day trip to the keys Nov 18 -22 with my son and I'm a little unsure if it is worth the time, at that time of the year with cold fronts, high wind, dropping water temps etc....any thoughts??

Call Ben Iannotta, bigfishonfly dot com, in Summerland Key.

I've fished the Keys in Nov and as long as the weather cooperates the bonefishing is excellent, BIG bones.

The fronts do not really start to roll in until late December/early January and if you do get one it will not be that strong. They tend to be much stronger in January February then fade. November is excellent fishing. Almost as good as April and May. The water will have started to cool from the current 88 degrees and fishing will turn on. Permit on the flats should be great.

Offshore/reef/wreck fishing is just getting going with some Sailfish starting to show, along with plenty of Bonito, Blackfin Tuna, Amberjack, Grouper, Snapper, Kingfish and all the usual misc. reef fish.

I also will be fishing the Keys in late November. To be honest I'm not that interested in spending a day chasing bonefish or permit. What about barracuda or sharks on the flats in November? What flies should I use? Or maybe I should consentrate on another gamefish that will be easier to catch than one of the "Big 3". I'll be fishing a 9wt and 12wt(for any extra large cudas --127-3- ). Thanks for the help.

Cudas and Sharks are always on the flats it is just that the rest of the fish tend to only be on the flats when the water temp is comfortable for them. Anywhere on the flats around Marquesas and west of Key West.
