What Aluminium??

Hey All,

Just want to know if anyone knows what type of aluminium ABEL and Tibor reels are made of.

6061 T6

Stronger the mild steel. 23Ksi yield stress I think. T6 is the heat treatment temperature range. This does not mean the material hard. The HT process is used to gain the steel like properties.

6061 is the most frequently used aluminum for lightweight strong products.

If made from a round ssection it would be refered to a rod stock
If made from a rectangular ssection it would be refered to a bar stock

Many round parts are machined from rectangular plates or sections because in most cases it's less expensive to operate a 6-axis machining center than a NC lathes.
