The last time I was in Florida, I noticed a few people who had in their possession small 10-12" albies for purposes of using for bait. How common are those sized albies and where do they frequent: offshore, near shore or in the back bays? Don't get me wrong...I'd like to catch the bigger ones. However, if I were slumming around on a shore trip and stumbled across those, I think that would be cool to go after...especially since I often use a 6 or 7 wt fly rod when fishing for small jacks, lady fish, trout, etc. Are they a shorebound target?

Thanks

I'd like to hear more about these peanut albies, myself. Sounds like lots of fun to me, on a 6wt rod.

You will occasionally get shots at albies (bonitos in FL) from piers in the mid - late summer. They are a blue water fish for the most part and will not come into the rivers or ICW. Pretty much mid June Through August should have you into more of those guys than you can deal with from in about 90-200' (1-5 miles from shore in the miami to Palm Beach stretch). Putting 25+ over the rail would not be uncommon for a morning. Live chum will go along ways towards banner action.
